Backsafe Manual Handling Hazard Identification & Risk Assessment

There are both documented and un-documented ways to identify, assess and control if an activity is hazardous to the health and safety of a worker. Although we believe that Backsafe Manual Handling Level 1 Training is essential to understand the hazards associated with existing manual handling habits and assists in identifying, assessing and controlling and reviewing manual handling hazards, we also think that this should be followed by a formal documented analysis of any identified task to determine if an activity will cause harm. This is a vital management tool.

Some work processes may cause a worker to go home tired yet be able to recover with normal rest, recreation, food and sleep. However some work processes create manual handling injury in one orm or another that cannot be overcome by the worker on a day to day basis. We call these injuries musculo-skeletal disorders (MSDs).
